Vallee de Mai
The Vallee de Mai on Praslin is one of the smallest areas which is declared as a Unesco world heritage. The valley in the Praslin nationalpark is the home of the Coco de Mer. The huge palms are one remarkable remain of prehistoric woods which already existed as the Seychelles were part of the Gondwana continent, which divided up into Africa, the Indian subcontinent, Madagascar and the islands of the Indian Ocean. Isolated for millions of years emerged different animals and plants, which exists only on the Seychelles.

Female Coco De Mer
The Coco de Mer grows as male and female palm. The male tree can get up to 30 metres, the female tree up to 24 metres. The female Coco De Mer produces the largest seed of the world, which weighs up to 20 kilos. In the Vallee de Mai the leaves of young Coco de Mer palms are 14 metres long. A trunk shows up when the palms get 15 years old. Coco De Mer palms can get around 200 till 400 years old aproximately.
